Garner was born May 1, 1820 in Davidson County, NC. This photo is John Garner and family in 1851, the year they came to San Bernardino. Garner was a farmer and served as a County Supervisor 1868 to 1869. He died February 26, 1889 at Newport Beach, CA and is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in San Bernardino.
