 COVID-19 Modified Services Update

Due to the continued presence of COVID-19 cases in our area, Animal Services will be taking the steps below to protect the health and welfare of our staff, animals and the community.

We ask that whether you visit our shelter or interact with a staff member in the field you maintain social distancing and wear a protective face covering over your mouth and nose if you have not been vaccinated for COVID-19. Our staff will be wearing protective face coverings and observing social distancing requirements during their interactions with the public consistent with local health guidelines.

We are participating in the month-long Clear the Shelters event hosted by NBC and Telemundo from August 23 through September 19, 2021. Check out our social media pages to view the latest adoption promotion.

  1. Appointments are recommended for all adoptions and return to owners Tuesday-Saturday 11:00AM-5:00PM (No more than three (3) people per appointment)
  2. Starting on May 18, 2021, the shelter will be open to visitors between the hours of Noon and 3PM Tuesday-Saturday. The shelter will accommodate visitors for adoptions, redemptions and licensing on a first come, first served basis as the appointment schedule permits.
  3. We are not accepting healthy stray cats at this time, but will continue to accept owner surrenders as well as sick or injured stray cats by appointment. If you need assistance with cats in your neighborhood, please contact the rescue groups listed on the graphic below.
  4. We are not accepting owner surrendered dogs at the moment due to an increase in dogs at the shelter. Please contact the Lange Foundation at (909) 600-0738 or sbintervention@langefoundation.org - they may be able to assist you with your pet.
  5. We will accept all stray dogs from the City of San Bernardino, but ask that residents check with their neighbors to see if they've lost their pet prior to contacting us or bringing the pet to the shelter. Social media tools like Facebook, NextDoor and applications like Finding Rover are free to use and can help you get the dog home quickly without a trip to the shelter.

If you are able to, please pay your pet's license by mail, phone or online by clicking here.

If you would like to pay for your fine or citation, please attempt to pay via mail or phone. If you need to pay your fine in-person, please contact us at (909) 384-7272 to make an appointment.

1.    Animal Control Officers will continue to respond to calls for service which pose a hazard to the public, injured, and deceased animals as well as all other calls, including nuisance complaints.

2.    If you have a stray dog and are comfortable bringing it to the shelter, please try and make an appointment first. If you are unable to bring the animal to the shelter, place a call for service.

4.    Animal Control Officers will not impound any stray healthy cats.

5.    Residents are asked to cease all trapping activities.

Appointments will be available Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Please call SB Direct at (909) 384-7272 to make an appointment.

There are 3 different rescue groups able to assist City residents with their healthy cats. Please contact them by email to request assistance. *Please note that responses from rescue groups may be delayed during kitten season (between March and October annually)
